Watched the Xbox One announcement today, I still have no idea how I feel about it. The presentation was slightly over one hour long, and almost none of it appealed to me whatsoever. I’ve never been a huge PlayStation fan, and loved Xbox Live since ~~Xbox one~~ the first Xbox, but I’m still undecided as to what console is next for me. My gaming life has become pretty much all about playing Battlefield, and so I definitely want to be on a next-gen console for Battlefield 4, but so far both Sony and Microsoft aren’t exactly wowing me. Today Microsoft’s focus was all about the Xbox becoming the main device in living rooms, but I really don’t care much about that. The gestures and voice controls seem like gimmicks to me, and what in the heck is up with all this cable integration?

This Xbox presumably will be around for around 7-10 years, and I would love to see just where exactly Microsoft sees cable TV going in that time. I’ve personally seen it as on it’s way out, especially in the younger generations, but Microsoft made it one of the first and longest featured points in the show today. Amazon and Netflix seem content on making it obsolete with their own shows, and now even Microsoft is bringing original shows, starting with Halo, to the Xbox. Microsoft is helping to kill its own feature!

So one rumor I’m starting right now is that the Xbox One might even play games, but that feature was pretty hidden today, and while they plan on showing more of that at E3, perhaps a little bit more info on that wouldn’t have killed them? EA Sports announced that their standard set of games are coming to the Xbox One, I’m sure a lot of jaws dropped at that one. Forza was shown off, you can’t launch a console without a racing game to “cheat” at having good graphics, and also some Quantum Break game was shown which I legitimately thought was going to be a comedy game as the trailer went on. And then they finished off with Call of Duty: Ghosts, which was essentially the opposite of what I was hoping to see, waiting for Battlefield 4 to appear.

Anywho, Microsoft just didn’t impress me yet, I’m hoping for a better showing at E3, but I’m afraid it will mostly be about how using the new Kinect will let me shake my arms or something in Call of Duty to pet dogs. While Sony didn’t even show the PlayStation 4 at their announcement, their one feature of having a share button on the controller is cooler to me than the Kinect gestures and being able to Skype while I watch TV. The two good things that Microsoft did announce were that 1) They didn’t fuck up the controller, a legitimate huge concern of mine as they’ve pushed more and more forward with Kinect, and 2) The thing, although reminiscent of a VCR that had sex with PS3, at least is rectangular so I can put my other stuff on top it.

DICE, just tell me which to buy. I just can’t join the PC Gaming Master Race, so just tell me which console will be better for Battlefield.

The news of this honestly hit me very hard, I’ve been using Google Reader since 2005. It’s been one of, if not the website I love the most. I can understand Google’s thought process in seeing that obviously it doesn’t have a huge number of users, but personally I believe they underestimate just how important it is to those who do use it. I sincerely hope Google reconsiders.

But, the good news is that Google Reader was essentially just a shell around the actual content. I’ll have to find a new RSS reader that I like. Currently, I’m attempting to try out Feedly, and it seems very nice, but my problem is that I keep checking Reader instead out of habit.

I can only hope that this is being done due to Currents being on the verge of launching a replacement via a web interface. Currents is certainly a very attractive app, and the fact it only exists in that form and not a web interface is literally the exact opposite of Google’s beliefs. But, if this were the case, why not wait until it was ready, instead leaving us to scramble to competitors? I don’t see it happening, and being an RSS reader is already a feature seeming tacked on to the Currents app.

I will sincerely miss you Google Reader, it’s been a great 7 years. The way I use the internet is about to completely change.

I watched the Cloud Atlas trailer today, as I had decided to wait until I finished the book.

I AM SO PUMPED FOR THIS MOVIE.

The scope is so huge. Cloud Atlas is six different stories, told in the order of 1,2,3,4,5,6,5,4,3,2,1. Each story plays off of themes from the others, over many time periods, and with so many genres. It ranges from romance to comedy to action to sci fi. I mean just look at the trailer. From the year 1850 to two different future time periods and everything inbetween. The actors all play various roles, (genius!) which I love as way of interpreting the book.

I really enjoyed the book, although the first half was a bit difficult to get through for me. I felt like just as each story was really starting to take off, the next one would begin, and then it is just like starting a new book all over. Characters introduced, plot being set-up, etc. It took me months to get through the first half of the book, only days for second.

So I might have never mentioned this, but like a month and a half ago I went to go to sleep in my bed (which is lofted), and taped to my ceiling, a foot from my face, was the story of The Expressionless. Cody had, of course, put it there.

So then a few days later we went to try out our new rasterbator software, just to make sure it worked, and Cody decided (without my knowledge) that the image to test it should be The Expressionless. If it was terrifying bite-sized, it was life-threatening at 4 feet tall.

We put it up on the wall cuz, why not. Many a girl (and guys too, really) have felt uncomfortable in our living room ever since.

Now I had become completely immune to it after it being there for so long, but for the last 5 days all 3 of my roommates have been gone and well, it started getting to me again.

So, Dolan.

ps. I actually did finish this video a month ago. Then I totally forgot about it. The only reason I remembered to post this is because I happened to see that Final Cut Pro was running in my dock. I opened it and this was sitting there. Which means I had FCP running in the background on my computer FOR A MONTH. Guess that explains my shitty battery life.
