I am attempting to do the full switch from iPhoto to Picasa.

Not just having Picasa read my iPhoto library like it does on default. I mean IMPORT everything into Picasa.

Upsides:

  1. Picasa is free (including future updates).
  2. Speaking of not free, I didn’t buy the latest iLife so I don’t have geotagging or face recognition, which Picasa does.
  3. A smaller library. My iPhoto library is 69 GB, Picasa made it 53 GB.
  4. Way faster than iPhoto.
  5. Better support with Picasa Web Albums.
  6. Better Web Albums support = better Android phone support.

Downsides I foresee:

  1. Picasa for Mac is in beta, a little risky. I will be making backups.
  2. Less integration into Mac OS X.
  3. UGLY. Very little No use of Apple’s UI guidelines.
