I have a working Conky on my Archlinux! It’s beautiful! Soooo much work but so awesome! (It’s the sidebar on the right in the picture)
Yesterday David and I spent waaaay too long getting Conky to work, but it was worth it. I learned a lot more about Linux/code and it just looks friggin sweet :-)
Lots and lots of coding was involved, but I mean every time one of those “sweet desktop themes” pop up on digg or other random places, they alwaaaays have Conky. And so I’ve tried to get it before, but it’s just a total bitch. The entire thing is all code. Each little module looking thing is coded and positioned in, there isn’t just some list of ones built in that you can drag and drop. I guess that makes it cool since everyone’s turns out different and you can make it as useful or pretty as you want it to be, but damn we def were searching their wiki nonstop for help.
Anyways, we scavenged web for different bits of code to add into our little custom one, and ended up with the what you see above. Obviously Conky and display tons of other information like current song, most memory intensive apps, and other random things. I’m curious to see what Dave turns his into because we made this one for my tiny Eee PC screen, so I’m sure he can fit a lot more on his.
Anyways, making this thing was a real bitch, but since we did a lot of hardwork to get it up and running, I figure I’d show give out my code to anyone who wants to make their own. The code is here. Good luck :-D
P.S. Thanks to anyone we borrowed code from! Arch Linux Linux
